about

This began as a single: Momma Death being the A-side. Now it is this. The brief snippet of Meteorite called Precious Freckle (complete song is on the Green Tourmaline record) was recorded in my Mom's shed, on my nephew Seamus's electric guitar, back before the song had words. Momma Death contains a sample of the Replacements, from their song "Gary's Got a Boner", on their Let It Be record.
7 July -- I put Fuzzy and Paris en L'Aout, so this is turning into a lazy-day summer instrumental record. I washed dishes to it; it's okay. I'm writing an operetta about Susan Glover, first wife of James Glover, the so-called Father of Spokane. He got tired of her and had her institutionalized, and nobody talked about it. Ever, seemingly. Among all the glory laud and honor bestowed on him there was no mention of her. She deserves a song at least.
9 July -- added the subdued rendition of Rocket (the Shimmy Gasket record has the original), Wind up the Band and a different take on Red & Delicious, a song I wrote in college.
16 July -- yesterday I put up Summer Comet and today I put Thomas the Rhymer (part two). Thomas the Rhymer is on my record called Crooked Sky. For some reason he is back after ten years.
18 July -- Box Office Poison happened today. Then I put a new version of Chinatown Bus, but the lyrics will keep fighting me no matter how many hundreds of verses I try. Much like the bus-ride the song refuses to be quite as I envisioned it. The second refrain should've gone: "Chinatown bus to the propinquity of what makes my heart purr".
21 July -- I changed the name of a song because it had a stupid title. Now it is Marmots Away, and I think that means this record is finished. Susan Glover's song is being born, not to be rushed.
