about

This is my favorite. Not for nothing is it the one I sent Jim Knipfel out of nowhere. I moved from Troy to Seattle in mid-October of 2oo1, and made this record in a duplex there. The neighbors didn't much care for me. No drums, just the floor some altoids boxes and a laundry basket.Tropical Joe I wrote in 1994 but the rest I came up with in that Seattle time (except Earthling -- my friends Carl and Kerri came to visit sometime that winter and Carl asked me to play my song Earthling, which I had never heard, except he had a recording of me playing it some long-gone drunken evening, so I learned my own song over again). I put in a different rendition of One July Night that must be from soon after I wrote it because there's a certain freckle lacking on the guitar part that I got solidified later, but the true version I can't find has the best three-part harmony arrangement I ever dreamed up. So, oh well. One last thing: This one is the first I really put an effort into its being an album, as in something to listen to from start to finish. Now I respect understand and comply with Bandcamp's policy of not posting covers, but imagine if you will this record starting with a cover of Run-DMC's "Tricky" and later on a Timbuk3 song and then later an R.L. Burnside cover. Those put that little bit more meat on the bones. Other records of mine posted here contain covers that are of necessity not posted, of: Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Kristin Hersh, Brad Sucks, My Bubba & Mi, Duke Ellington, Phil Philips, Lightnin' Hopkins, Alicia Butler-Baker, Elizabeth Cotten, The Cramps, Fats Domino, The Beastie Boys, and so on. Not a complain, just an observation. The picture there is of the Marne bridge in People's park here in Spokane, taken from Overlook park on a misty misty morning a couple days ago (7 Dec 2o19). I slipped on the edge after getting the picture and landed hard on my knee, so, see how dedicated?
